Vicinity

The node with its summit location near Arborn in the Hessian Lahn-Dill district and mountain parts near Oberrod in the Rhineland-Palatinate Westerwald district is a

605.4 m above sea level, a mountain in the Westerwald and one of the highest Hessian mountains in this low mountain range.

The mountain acts as a climatic divide, separating the High Westerwald from the Lahnwesterwald. On the western part of the junction are areas of the Krombachtalsperre landscape conservation area. There are also areas of the Fauna-Flora-Habitat area "Wetlands and Heaths of the High Westerwald" (Fauna-Flora-Habitat area), to the north are parts of the Ulmbachtal valley and meadows in the Hainerlen, and to the south are parts of the Heidenkopf and junction north of Mengerskirchen. To the east are areas of the Hoher Westerwald bird sanctuary, and to the west are parts of the Westerwald protected area.

In earlier times, the Knoten served primarily as grazing land for the livestock of local farmers and shepherds. Today, the mountain is home to a ski area with two groomed cross-country ski trails and a 280-meter-long descent, as well as a ski lift. The Wetzlarer Hütte, located about 150 meters below the Weilburg Loipenhaus near the summit, offers overnight accommodation for hikers. There is also a 32-kilometer-long cycle path around the Knoten. A summit cross stands on the mountain.
